Ohtani apparently did something new with his splitter tonight, as the seven he threw were up 3.3 mph from his season average. Mostly, though, he used fastballs and sweepers, picking up all eight of his strikeouts with those two offerings. In seven starts this season, he’s allowed no earned runs four times, one earned run twice and two earned runs once. It’s only earned him a 3-2 record, but his ERA is sitting at 0.82. The plan still appears to be for him to get a second straight day off at the plate on Thursday. He’ll be back at DH for the series against the Angels on Friday, and he’ll likely make his next start Tuesday in San Diego.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #16
The slam off Matthew Liberatore was Kurtz’s third in 15 career at-bats with the bases loaded. It was also his first homer in 63 plate appearances against lefties this season. He’s previously gone 7-for-43 with two RBI in his 12 games in which the opposition started a lefty. Fortunately, he’s done plenty of damage against righties along the way, and he’s currently sporting a .267/.418/.453 line for the year.
  • NYM Left Fielder #22
It’s a massive relief for the Mets, and fantasy managers, following Soto’s early departure from Wednesday’s eventual extra-inning marathon at Citi Field after fouling a ball off his right ankle in the third inning. The 27-year-old generational talent appears to have avoided serious injury based on initial imaging. He’ll undergo further evaluation and treatment prior to Thursday’s series finale.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #17
Teoscar Hernández is at DH with Alex Call taking over in left field. Ohtani had been scuffling at the plate, hitting .200/.321/.300 with one home run over his previous 26 games before going deep off Giants starter Adrian Houser during Tuesday’s contest. The Dodgers are making a concerted effort to reduce the 31-year-old two-way sensation’s workload to keep him fresher at the plate moving forward. He’ll get a full day off Thursday before returning for Friday’s series opener against the Angels.
  • MIL Left Fielder #22
Brewers skipper Pat Murphy told reporters Yelich, who returned from the injured list during Tuesday’s series opener, is dealing with a little back soreness and they didn’t want to take any chances given his injury history. It sounds like a precautionary move to give him some extra time off and prevent the issue from growing into a larger concern. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Thursday’s series finale.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #93
It’s an absolute bombshell development after Snelling made his highly-anticipated major-league debut last Friday against the Nationals, allowing three runs over five innings. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect was slated to start Thursday’s series finale against the Twins. There’s no word yet regarding how much time the 22-year-old top prospect will miss, but elbow injuries tend to lead to significant absences, especially when UCL damage is involved. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough told reporters it’ll be veteran lefty Braxton Garrett, who has been outstanding at Triple-A Jacksonville this season, coming up to fill Snelling’s rotation spot.
  • ATL Right Fielder #13
Weiss noted that Acuña is making progress, and was able to run at roughly 50 percent prior to Wednesday’s game, but he won’t return during the club’s current homestand, which wraps up this weekend. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar is making steady progress towards returning from a hamstring strain, but it sounds like he won’t make it back until some point next week.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #17
It’s hardly set in stone, but Eovaldi expressed confidence to reporters afterwards that he’ll be ready to take the ball this weekend against the Astros, most likely during Sunday’s series finale. It’s an extremely encouraging sign that he was able to resume throwing without any issues after being scratched from Monday’s start against the Diamondbacks with left side discomfort. There should be a more definitive update on his status point prior to the weekend.
  • NYM Catcher #4
It’s a significant loss for the injury-plagued Mets, who will be without their starting catcher until at least late June, in a best-case scenario. It’s possible he’s on the shelf until after the All-Star break in mid-July. The 24-year-old backstop suffered the injury during Tuesday’s contest against the Tigers. It’ll be defensive specialist Luis Torrens taking over the catching duties in his absence.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
This is an unfortunate way for the Yankees to solve their rotation crunch, but assuming that Fried is going to spend some on the IL, it allows them to stick with a five-man group and still keep Will Warren and Ryan Weathers after Gerrit Cole is activated. Fried’s last big elbow scare came in 2023, when he missed about half of the season with a forearm strain. He also had a brief absence in 2024 with neuritis in the area.
